Chance to dance with seated ballet classes for seniors

Earlier this week I had the wonderful experience of delivering seated ballet sessions for residents at two local retirement living schemes. Working with Midland Heart, the classes took place at Chatham Place in Northfield, and Terryspring Court in Redditch.

It was lovely to meet the residents and really interesting chatting to them about their experiences of dance – some had danced when they were younger and enjoyed re-engaging with a former pastime, others had never danced at all and were curious to try a new activity.

The classes were specially designed to bring the experience of ballet to those who prefer to exercise seated, or have reduced mobility. Through a range of exercises, we explored movements inspired by ballet technique, all set to beautiful classical music.

For any age, dance has many physical, mental and social benefits – read more about them in this blog.

I’m pleased to say that after a positive first session I’ll be continuing to lead seated ballet sessions at both Northfield and Redditch schemes on Monday mornings. If you or anyone you know would be interested, please get in touch.
